Used books, rare books, vintage clothing, and more
Ole Man Berkins is located in Breckenridge, CO. We sell used, rare and new books. Of course you have to look good while you read, so there is a vintage clothing section (Clothing for the Modern Day Eccentric), Ole Man Berkins t-shirts, and a plethora of hats. Art is available from local artists. Other items: DVDs (we specialize in cult classics such as Harold & Maude, Donnie Darko, Down by Law), VHS, vinyl records, books on audio cd, music boxes, and bizarre antiques.
Why we’re different
One of the things that sets us apart from other used book stores and local businesses is the huge selection at unbeatable prices. Last count put the 1100 square foot store at over 25,000 volumes. The literature/classics section ISN’T just 2 shelves that other bookstores reserve for it. If you want to read A Tale of Two Cities we’ll have a copy for less than the price of a cup of coffee. Want a hardcover copy of A Catcher in the Rye with the original dust jacket art? At this moment I have six pristine copies. My Beat writers section is the largest east of City Lights in San Fran. Other authors in abundance: Vonnegut, Hunter Thompson, Sedaris, Bukowski, L’Amour (largest L’amour section north of Texas), Hemingway, Steinbeck, Stephen King, and if Oprah picked it then I took it from her hands and put it in my store. The children’s section is so enormous that I think there are a few kids back there buried under the Series of Unfortunate Events.
For the Modern Day Eccentric
Do I know much about style? No. But I have a buddy that does. If I look good it’s because he picked out the outfit. He stocks all the clothing in the store. Then if I sell it he gets a cut. You don’t necessarily need to know all that, but the point is that customers love the clothing here. Ole Man Berkins is also the only brick and mortar store that carries the “Colorful Colorado” t-shirts (look at me on the website picture to see shirt). The artists and artisans are all local and extremely reasonably priced (one of my criteria for potential art exhibitors), and my bestselling artist (Rob Dolgaard) is soon to be the next big name in the art industry.
“Breckenridge’s best kept secret! As a used book store connoisseur, Ole Man Berkins single handedly made me fall for Breckenridge, CO. Drop by and Justin will likely be playing Beck and setting up the latest local lowbrow artwork. There’s a piano in the back and endless aisles of high quality used books make it accessible to discover your next favorite read.”
